Wine Profile
Tasting Notes
Beautiful floral aromas of rose petals along with intense cranberry and white pepper are just a hint of the fascinating deep, tarry, thick blackberry bouquet. Deep black cherry envelopes you as you take a sip, and experience intense umami, and a briny mouthwatering palate of sour cherries like a cough drop. Chewy tannings, bracing acidity and a persistent lingering finish beg for a rich, savory meal such as succulent braised short rib with a carmelized onion, roasted tomato and mushroom demi-glace sauce. Wow…
Vineyard Notes
We were thrilled when Bill Weir offered us the opportunity to try our hand at crafting Nebbiolo from his vineyard! The vines were grafted over from Pinot Noir as a tribute to Bill’s late sister-in-law, Elisabeth Friel, who was enamored by Nebbiolo. This really interesting variety is as challenging as Pinot Noir and produces a wine that is equal parts racy, intellectual and elegant.
Production Notes
As usual, most of the hard work of chasing perfection occurred in the vineyard, so our efforts in the winery were minimal. We picked September 12th, sorted the fruit, and waited for a feral yeast fermentation to take off. We basically crafted this wine using the same techniques that we employ for all our Pinot noirs - lots of manual punchdowns and extended maceration. This wine was aged in a stainless steel barrel for 20 months.
